Except their bill was $50 and they didn't leave me one goddamn cent. As I stood looking at the table in disbelief, I saw the three of them getting in to their car right outside the window. I saw them watching me. And I didn't flip them off.
Tales of a waitress who escaped the restaurant industry and then discovered a desk job kind of blows - so I put the apron back on. And I deliver pizza because getting paid to drive around listening to music is pretty awesome.

That's willpower.
My first table on Friday pissed me right the fuck off. They were my only table, so they had my undivided attention; they seemed like a perfectly nice, normal table of three. They said please and thank you; they were polite and ate quickly. We exchanged a little small talk, and basically they'd've been totally unmemorable.

So your first sentence made me laugh! As I read the rest of the story... ugh. What ass hats. Don't worry, people like that get in car crashes.
Sometimes, when I'm looking at a particularly horrid tip, I say, out loud, "I hope you get into a car crash". I wonder if it ever really happens. I wonder if my ill will ever finds them. Likewise, if it's a good tip, I say, out loud, "Thank you, come back anytime." I also go back to the table and thank them for their generosity.
I have a table, a middle aged couple, and they always ask for me!! Always. Sometimes they bring other family members. They are always so sweet to me! They tell me I'm the best waitress in the world! But they tip, on the very best of days, 10%. Usually its quite a bit less. And I think they feel that they are really hooking me up!
I've had tables compliment me and leave me nothing, like the compliment was tip enough for me! That sort of thing always confuses me. Show me the money! My husband compliments me enough at home. Lol!! God bless!
Biz, CW, I find myself thinking the same thing sometimes ... and then I feel bad about myself and amend it with "that doesn't hurt you too badly!"
Veteran Server, I have some people like that too. At least I know what to expect with them!
Damn PG, that IS willpower. I thought it was willpower to smile at the fuckers who left me $5 on a $51....
Your first sentence cracked me up too. And I am also an amend-er, as in "I hope your house burns down, but you aren't in it." ;)
I cannot understand people who don't tip? I wish they made badges for servers to wear that said "I make $2.35 an hour. Be kind" of somesuch. Drives me nuts when people cost a server money to wait on them.
AZ, it took all I had. I still almost did the casual forehead scratch with my middle finger at them. I haven't been able to say thank you to people for shitty tips lately; I just can't fake the politeness. I just wish them a good day with a smile.
Skippymom, don't want to incur the wrath of karma, right? :)
