Well, sort of, anyway.
I've decided to scale back my hours a bit—I was getting waaaaay more than “slightly” cranky. The way people pronounce words was starting to annoy me—I think that's a good sign I was working too much. Not to mention, with these new late night hours, I was working more hours for the same amount of money—and I was working so many hours I couldn't even pick up a first cut shift to make some extra cash. So I emailed Lapdog and asked to be taken off two of my closing shifts. He didn't deign to respond to me, but he did take me off one of them next week. So that's a little bit of progress.
I'm really thinking of trying to get an hourly job, and cutting my serving shifts back to a minimum. Of course, I think that all the time and end up not doing it. But with this semester almost over, it would be a good time to switch to an hourly evening job and daytime serving shifts for the summer, or a mix of evening shifts. We'll see how it goes, I looked (half-assedly) for a second job last summer too and it never worked out.

I feel ya. I can't wait until the semester is over. I ride for a local trainer am an exercise mount for a local barn in addition to training my own, so I do that during the day (including barn work) for cash and the serve at night. It works out pretty well - I do what I love during the day and make easy cash at night.
Actually, I'm quite jealous of you! I used to ride, but when I get to high school I drifted away from that. Wish I hadn't.
Hourly job? You mean one of those things that pay you the same whether you are busy or not? Then make you wait two weeks for your money and declare everything to the IRS? Overrated.
This is probably the time of year to take a break anyway. It is slow. I work my ass off over the holidays to save cash so this time of year I give up shifts to desperate coworkers who need the money. Mid April always sucks because of taxes. Give it a month or so and take as much time off as you can in the meantime.
That's how I can tell when I've been working too much. The littlest things start to get to me...
David, you've put your finger on why I hang on instead of getting that hourly job!
LW, me too. When I find myself wanting to scream at someone that it's a CUP OF, not a "cuppa", it's time to take a break!
