A little common sense goes a long, long way.

This is my 650th post! Holy shit, I really never do shut up!

We've lost another FNG, utterly through her own actions. I didn't think she'd last long anyway, because she just couldn't seem to wrap her little brain around the fact that we're not her other restaurant. She was also working at a pizza place, and every other word out of her mouth was something about how things were so much better there, or she just didn't understand why we didn't do THIS or THAT like at her other job, or how she just couldn't remember all our sides because at her other job they only have four. Wait, you mean different restaurants have different shit? No fucking way!

Anyway, on her last shift a few days ago, FNG was sat with two police officers at one of her booths. She approached the table, saw they were cops, and then walked right past them and said to the hostess, “I am not waiting on 52!”

Yeah …. table 52 is right by the host stand. So naturally her vehemence caught their attention, and they were listening when she lowered her voice and went into a diatribe. Apparently, she fucking hates cops. She thinks they're all assholes, she refuses to wait on them, and she thinks this city's cops are particularly douchebaggy. She wishes they'd never come in, they make everyone uncomfortable. She then asked the hostess to never, ever seat her with goddamn cops again, and went off to find someone else to take the table.

The nice officers finished their lunch, waited on by Tiffany, and then requested to speak to the manager. It's probably lucky that CL wasn't there, she might have had a stroke. Instead, HotPants got the job of assuring the police that FNG would be talked to about her attitude and that they do not, in fact, make everyone uncomfortable.

Needless to say, FNG was suspended, code for fired on the next payday, immediately. You just can't talk that way about customers where they can hear you.

It doesn't help that insulting the police is a bit of a sore spot with CL anyway, due to a story I haven't shared yet. It's a little too specific, plus not entirely resolved, so I'm waiting for the fallout before I write it up. For now let's just say another employee lost their job because they pissed off a police officer. So for a second of her employees to do it again sent CL through the freaking roof. I didn't even see her until almost a week after it happened, and her face still turned a frightening shade of red while she talked about it.

Congrats on your 650 - keep talking - we love it!

Wow - that girl is a piece of work. Glad they got rid of her. Maybe it's because I am older or we have nicer cops or something - but sounds like she has either been arrested at one point or a boyfriend/relative has been - and you just know "it wasn't their fault". I'd wait on the cops here all day long. They're pretty cool - just doing their jobs. As should have she.

My gawd, I hate entitled servers who absolutely 'won't take' a certain group of people. They are servers, not high-priced courtesans. It is not their job to dictate to the hostess who is and is not acceptable for them to wait on. If they are in your damn section, you wait on them, or get the hell out so the rest of us can have a larger section.

We had a similiar incident at my place...except my manager should have seen it coming. This asshole had a table full of young, black teenagers. Obviously, he was too good for that, so he gave them this lecture on how they absultely had to tip him, that he only made 2.13 an hour, and had to tip out to the host staff based on sales. Then he took forever to get them their food and drinks. They complained, and I finally don't have to see his asshole face on the floor anymore.

I only refused to serve a customer once and that was because... Okay this will take a bit to explain.

We had a busy day and we were short staffed as usual. We had this self important woman that liked to bark orders came in I was glad to be bussing table because horrible doesn't begin to describe my previous experiences with her. The guy making coffee made her the a coffee to have in when it was actually for take away then he made her the wrong coffee for take away. (I didn't blame him the person doing till has no clue how to pace the ordering so the person on coffee doesn't get swamped. Finally he made the coffee right but one drip rolled down the side of her cup and she want ape shit!

She called me over and started shouting about the state of the cup and how she wanted a refund. I said "I'm sorry about that I'll get a fresh one made for you immediately" she said "I dont want another one you half wit I want my money back" I replied "I understand that you are upset but in all fairness I have not done anything to deserve to be called a half wit" She then told me over 250,000 people are unemployed at the moment and I should be one of them.

I stormed in the kitchen and punched the wall bruising my knuckles pretty bad and got a manager out to deal with her. I was so enraged that the manager sent me into the store room for an hour to cool off. The next day the bitch was in when it was her turn to be served I stood back asked the girl on the dish room to serve her then took over the till after she had been given her change and immediately started serving the next customer. After that I never saw her again and you kn ow what fuck her if she was offended she verbally abused me and its store policy that have the right to disengage and refuse to serve abusive customers

What a twit this waitress was...I agree with what Rachel said totally--you're a waitress so wait on your tables. It doesn't matter if they're black, white, cops, old people, teenagers, Canadians, etc. Part of the job is having to deal with people who you don't necessarily care for. Suck it up...
or do what a big person does and have some class and don't let the customer know you have a problem. That's where she went wrong.

That being said, I don't blame DMT for not waiting on that horrible woman. I wouldn't want to wait on her either.

Wow, what a bitch. I think most cops are polite but tip like shit. Paramedics and firefighters tip better. Even so, I would NEVER refuse to wait on someone simply on their profession or appearance. I've wanted to, sure, but I haven't. The only thing that would have me running to a manager to get out of taking a table: having previously waited on the party and being harrassed (sexually, verbally, whatever). I'm a glutton for punishment, but I draw the line there. I will cry and act scared if necessary. I don't repeat that shit if I don't have to.

Anyway, she was a bitch for refusing to wait on them just because they were cops. Fuck her and good riddance. Glad the cops handled it cooler than I would have. And that CL wasn't there to be a bigger dumbass. I understand that she has a sore spot about it, but no one needs another person freaking out.

I think Anon at 10:23 has been arrested one too many times. Oh and what DMT said too.

Hugs my friend.

Perhaps with fewer servers on the floor you might do better - but I'm sure CL quickly replaced her.

Oh--I DEFINATELY agree that DMT had every right to refuse that abusive harpie who had treated him in that degrading manner. No one should have to wait on people who have actually gone out of their way to harm them.

The servers I dislike are the ones who seem to think that it is fine for them to compose a list of undesirables that they are excempt from waiting on. They are then shocked when management objects to having these lists dicated to them, and their co-workers object to the assumption that they will be taking all the 'Canadians, cops, firefighters, teenagers, patio tables, senior citizens, one tops, young families, exc, exc,' that they are too good to take.

Wow, I agree with skippymom! The only time I hear people say negative things about police officers is when they have been or know someone who has been on the other side of the law. My BIL has been arrested more times than I can count, because he is a moron. My MIL thinks he is a saint and is being targeted because of one mistake he made at 17. (wrong!!!) She is so negative about the police she has told grandchildren that the police are not to be trusted at all, ever.

Thankfully she never said that to me or my children because my godfather is recently retired from the force and the nicest biggest teddybear I know

I always say that you can never judge a book by it's cover. Sometimes people will pleasantly surprise you. You're attitude about someone always comes across, even if you think it doesn't. At least you don't have to deal with the FNG anymore :)

Grats on 650!

Glad to hear the idiot was sent on her way. You don't need douche-pickles like her working with you.
