Who's the fucking bitch?

My very last table last night had a whiff of white trash about them, but nothing I would have remembered. They came in half an hour before close, ordered giant cocktails and dessert, and then decided to go out and have a smoke right after I locked the doors. I directed them to the patio, even though we don't usually let people smoke out there (I think it's covered under the state smoking ban technically)--I wasn't going to unlock the door and risk having more people come in and get pissed off.

They finally gave me their card at about quarter after; the first time I ran it I got a "time out" message, which happens sometimes and I didn't think anything of it since it went through immediately the second time. They left right after, and we closed up and went home.

At about 4:30 today, I heard the bartender tell the GM that "there's a woman named Kelly on the phone who's really intent on talking to a manager". I had a bad feeling--I had to do one void last night, and whenever we do that the first charge still shows up as "pending" for several days. I explained that to my table, but I thought maybe the wife wasn't listening.

Oh, no. It was whitetrash lady. Apparently that first "time out" thing was showing up as a pending transaction, and she was throwing a fit. She claims the bank told her that she could just call the restaurant and we could fix it--like magic! When the manager politely told her that she wasn't able to because we only sent the real charge through once, and that it would disappear on its own, the woman screamed at her, "FUCK YOU, you fucking bitch!"

GM asked her not to swear at her, please, and the woman continued to scream. "I would have never come in there if I knew this was going to happen, you fucking bitch! I'm going to sue your ass off! I'm never fucking coming in there again!" etc. etc., and eventually hung after after screaming "fuck you" one more time. She called my boss, who she's never met, a "fucking bitch" three times, and threw "fuck you" in there at least three times too.

The amount the woman was screaming about? $21.

As someone who complains about being broke, not being able to pay bills and rent, and having to work as a FUCKING waitress at your age, you might realize that $21 could be a lot to someone, especially if the time out wasn't explained to her when it happened. You want to know who the bitch is? YOU ARE THE BITCH. As well as a stupid fucking cow.

Oh Christ, the trolls are back.

As someone who's apparently read enough of my blogs to know I have money difficulties, and my age, you might realize my issue is with this woman flipping out. Yeah, I've been in a position where $20 can make or break me--but I would not scream obscenities at a stranger, nor make threats. Also, there was nothing to explain to her that I knew of--we get that time out message frequently, and even the manager said she's never, ever had somebody call saying there were two charges.

I may be a bitch sometimes, but this is not an example of it--unlike certain people's comments.

@troll: $21 can be a lot to some people--hell, it's a lot to me. But that's not an excuse to behave like a foulmouthed 2-year-old. Nor is the ability to leave anonymous comments on a blog post you don't like, by the way.

Reader De-Lurking.

Dear PG ( I hope that's ok),

I also have worked as a waitress and like everyone else in todays economy and I mean everyone, I am no stranger to the struggle to make ends meet.

The WT patron was completely out of line.

Period.

No Excuse for that behavior.

And yes...I know the types....I work for attorneys.

Hang in there PG.

@Anon - Spending $21 at a restaurant does not allow you throw a vulgar hissy fit. You get NOTHING from acting that way. In fact, people don't want to help you, and the stupid sue comment only shows this woman has absolutely no clue to begin with.

Oh, and Anon - stop being a BITCH ,and if you want to comment, use a real log in instead of hiding under obscurity.

Don't you have anything better to do than visit my blog almost daily and insult me every few weeks? Sad.

Even if she had spent $200 she didn't have to be such a rude fucker. Working with the public myself, I hear ya!

You seem to get a lot of negative comments, if I didn't like someones blog, I wouldn't be revisiting...you must be a compelling read ;-)

How low people can go!! $21 is $21 have or not have. But to go off like that, well that's just out of order. Have come over from Waiter Extraordinaire and find it right on our scene. Will be back for more.

Excellent, welcome. :)

I know I'm postng a lot tonight, but there's just so many similarities between restaurants and hotels!

At my hotel, we put a hold on people's cards - both for their room charges and incidentals. Even if they pay with reward points, there's a hold placed for incidentals.

A guest the other day had a problem with this. For those paying with points, a $50 hold is placed. Now, even I agree that $50 is a little much, but it's not my policy. Well, on the day of checkout, the woman comes down to the front complaining about the hold. They won't have enough money to checkin to their hotel tonight with this hold, etc. Now the hold dissapears after 3 days, but if my manager calls he CAN get it removed. So we told her he'd call and they should take if off within an hour, which had previously been our experience.

So my manager calls the bank and they say they'll take off the charge by evening. I call the woman to tell her this, quite cheerfully, since I am happy we're able to help her. Well, she throws a fit. "If you don't take it off now, we won't be able to checkin to our hotel today! You said it would be an hour! Blah blah blah."

I tell her calmly that it's usually an hour, but her bank told us it would take until evening. She informs me that her brother-in-law is president of the bank, and HE says the vendor always has control over whather or not the charge is removed. I tell her, yes, we do, and we did call to have it removed, now they have to REMOVE it.

She still doesn't get it, and repeats her thing about the vendor removing it few more times. Then, she takes out the big guns - threatening to call corporate! I try not to laugh as I tell her the holds are corporate's policy. God, some people just don't get it.

I love when people threaten to call corporate -- because 99% of them couldn't be bothered to look up the corporate address! And even if they did, what do they think is going to happen after something like that? Crazy woman!
