I didn't hear this story until today, but apparently last week my coworker Rachel had some dumb fucking hillbilly boys at a patio table who decided to treat two of my friends like dirt. For their opening act, they asked Rachel if she works nights at a well-known trashy strip club in the area.
Later, another server who isn't "white" took food to them. As she's setting down a plate, as she's about to say "medium well sirloin" or whatever, one of these jackasses says, "Do you even speak English?" and then to his friend "I bet she doesn't even speak English."
If I'd heard about it when it happened, I don't think I'd've been able to stop myself from doing something to make sure they knew how much they suck for treating my friends that way.

If I were there I would have reported that to a manager. I know they are customers, but customers should not be allowed to harass the staff.
It wouldn't have been "And here is your medium well steak" it would've been "Here is your steak. In your lap" dump plate.
I do not know how y'all do it these days - as I have said I waitressed for years but some of the shyt y'all put up with now is beyond pale. I wouldn't have been able to control myself at 22, let alone if I was able to waitress now at 42.
Oh, and I would've smacked him with the plate for good measure.

I wish I'd been there, I would've reported it at the very least. My coworker just walked away, I don't know how she didn't go off on them.
I know exactly what you mean.. The other week i was serving some customers and one lady asked for a skinny cosmopolitan! How the hell am i going to make skinny cranberry juice and skinny alcohol. Of course she thought she was being funny. I on the other hand was having a terrible day with stupid ignorant customers and couldnt even force out a smile.. Im sorry but your jokes just arent funny.
When i handed her the cosmo she then proceeded to ask if it was diet. At this point i had had enough and told her it simply wasnt possible to do, she then asked me if i had a sence of humour and told me to get a personality..
Now i have been a waitress for nearly 7 years now and not once have i had a complaint about my personality, generally i am a very polite and friendly person.. but this stupid bitch just pushed me too far!
