Oh, you're in a hurry, are you?

My first table tonight was three younger people. Perfectly nice, if a lite abrupt. They chowed down and I gave them their ticket, informing them that I'd be their cashier. Then while they were fumbling with their wallets I stepped over to the table next to them to ask a question. Seconds later the first three filed by me, and one of them had a receipt and cash in his hand.

“Have a good night,” he said pleasantly as he walked by.
“Thank you! But actually you pay me.”
He looked down at the money in his hand and then at me. “But we're in a hurry.”

I don't remember what I said, but he didn't ask for a manager so it couldn't have been what I was thinking: “Oh, you're in a hurry? Well, then, why don't you just go right to the host stand and try to pay them with your hundred dollar bill. Maybe a cash register will magically appear just for you!” Freaking idiots.

God, I hate people who IGNORE my statement, "I will be your cashier." Then they get upset and put out when they finally figure out they can't pay at the door. People like that aren't likely to leave a good tip either, since they're obviously used to eating at the Golden Corral.

In Vegas a lot of the places have a central place you pay, and at different times they have the servers take the money instead, so it's a challenge to know what's correct at each meal.
Unless you're an asshole, then everything you do is the right thing

i dont know about other places but around here unless its Dennys or Bob evans or something, you pay the waitress. at almost ANY not dinerish chain restaurant you PAY THE WAITRESS. If you dont know HOW to go out to eat, then dont.

I work in fine dining and it's amazing how even with crystal and white tablecloths people try to pay at the host stand. People are dumb.
