(Wrote this a few days ago and forgot to post it.)
I went to work for two hours today, from four to six. Then I was sent home, because they'd assigned me the bloody patio. On an overcast, windy day. So I had two tables out there, three inside I managed to sneak before the other servers arrived, and that was it. Luckily CL was in a good mood, and PSM was too, because at six when I hadn't had a table in an hour they let me go home. So I took my $25 and left. For two hours' time, and probably only an hour of work, that's not bad. But overall, for a Saturday? Fucking ridiculous.
Where the fuck did our business go? Week before last, I cleared $400. Last week, $230. This week, with two shifts to go, I have made $167. What in bloody blue blazes is going on? I probably won't hit even $300 again this week! Where the hell did all our customers go!
(Yes, I did just say “bloody blue blazes.” I don't know. I picked it up in a book somewhere. I could've said what in the name of Jesus H. bloody motherfucking Christ on a broken pogo stick but I didn't want to offend anyone. HA!)

well, it took me 5 hours to make $25 yesterday, so don't feel too bad.
its summer. they are on vacation. our buisness drops this time of the summer too. about a moth before school restarts.
We've had several established places close down over the past few months. Doesn't look like many places are doing well.
Hit or miss in the summer here in upstate NY...just started at a locally owned restaurant that seems to do a crankin' lunch biz, but I'll let you know once I've settled in. Been in NY over 10 years and tips have never matched what I made when I lived in a well-heeled SW tourist town. Sigh.
Don't want to offend someone? Teehee. That's why I put "fuck" in my username. Just so that anyone visiting my blog would know straight off whether to keep reading or get the hell out. It's awesome because my blog is the only place I write/speak uninhibited. In my daily routine I have to tone down my vulgarity.
I feel ya on the business slowing down thing, though. Last weekend I worked 4 shifts and made $210. I normally make at least $270, often over $300. What the fuck?
sorry to hear that, if I'm not making $800 in a week i'm pretty disapointed and this isn't fine dining. Your place must be slooowww
Our place is slow as molasses, too.
Its a mix of this the time of the year and just the state of the global economy. Its happening everywhere myself and my GF used to go out for a meal once a week now we take it in turns to cook dinner before going to a night club or a movie. Eating out has become a once a month/special occasion thing.
It does seem like it's slow everywhere! Except for where Anonymous works. If that's true, Anonymous obviously has the best serving job in the world.
Anonymous, where *do* you work? I'ma gonna quit school (the one I just started) and go work with you.
I work at a casual-dining, pizza and craft beer place in Northern VA, just outside DC limits. We where jeans which is pretty cool. I expect to make $167 thursday night closing shift. Every area is different, i'm not bragging. The DC area economy also is probably better than any place in the country.
@Anon
Oh there is nothing better than to be able to wear comfy pants instead of polyester slacks that sweat the fuck out of you and give chapped thighs and waiters crack. (Well maybe a proper wage and a union to negotiate for an employee review system so you can earn pay rises :p)
I found a way around the polyester pants, Black combats; I just say to my managers "well in all fairness I'm the one who ends up climbing and crawling around the store room any time we need heavy stock and that just destroys my regular work pants" and thankfully my managers have a bit of common sense and turn a blind eye if you give them a good reason to
Oh I still get chapped thighs, and waiters crack! It's not as prevalent as when I had to wear cotton or polyester at another place though.
